Every September, LA-based non-profit Big Sunday holds the Books ‘n Brunch Book Drive to collect children’s and young adult books for schools and local communities. This year, the drive will be held on September 27th, 2026. Please help me reach my 2026 goal of collecting 5,000 books!

September 27th, 2026

Big Sunday's Annual Books 'n Brunch Book Drive is a community event that takes place every September at Big Sunday’s Los Angeles headquarters in Hollywood. Volunteers of all ages come together to collect, label and sort thousands of new and gently used books for kids and young adults.

I learned about the Books ‘n Brunch Book Drive when I had my Bar Mitzvah in 2022. For my Mitzvah Project, I decided to collect books so that all kids could enjoy them as much as I did. I’ve been participating in the Drive ever since. This year will be my 5th year.

Who Am I and Why Do I Love Books?

My name is Ryder, and I’m a rising senior at a high school in Los Angeles.

As the son of two writers, I was basically indundated with books from the time I was born. Like many parents, mine read to me every night before bed, everything from “Knuffle Bunny” to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” And at some point, their love of reading seeped into me.

Today, I mainly read for school, but I can honestly say that books have played a big role in making me the person I am. Books like The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, The Crossover by Kwame Alexander, and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald have all taught me a lot about the world and how I want to be. In fact, I’m even considering being an English major in college, something I wouldn’t have thought I’d be just a few years ago.

I know a lot of kids don’t have the access to books like I do, so the Big Sunday Books n’ Brunch Book Drive is a great way to share my love of reading with others.
